I know that we ask a lot of our vacuums. Seven children and two dogs are not your "average" household but I am looking at a broken one again. I want to know what you guys have. What do you love and what do you hate. I need something powerful that can suck up a lot of dog hair fast.
I need your input!

I bought a dyson not too long ago. I needed something for both hardwoods and rugs (and carpet upstairs). I like the no-bag part; the attachments, not so much...
My mom swears by the Dyson with her two dogs...bonus is there are a bunch of Dysons on sale next week for Black Friday!
hi kayce,
i don't have any carpet now but at the spa i work at we have that flor carpet tile stuff and it is like velcro with dirt. the spa bought a oreck vacuum cleaner and it works like a charm on that carpet. it is very powerful and i'm always saying i wish i had one when my kids were little. i don't know where they sell them though.
Oh my gosh - my mom was just on a Vacuum Cleaner Quest. In a perfect world I'd own a Dyson.
I really like my Oreck but I don't have a dog. But the guy at the vacuum store has me convinced that the Sebo upright is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I have an electrolux and love it! I also have a friend that has a Rainbow and loves it!! Hope this helps.
I have had every brand of vacuum out there and 5 kids, my best one which I now own is a red simplicity synchrony. I love it.
Hi Kayce,
From my experience the Dyson has to many parts and they break, I have one but rarely use it anymore. A great vacume cleaner is the German made SEBO and you may have to look around for it. Quality product, I love mine. I have four children and a dog. It's a good brand, it also is great on hardwood as well as carpet.
Check out SEBO, they aren't cheap, but they are wonderful and they last. The Dyson will break, to many plastic parts, I know this from experience.
i have a miele polaris and it is my bff!
Hey Kayce,
I love my Oreck and I have two hairy dogs but just two kids. There are Oreck stores all over Nashville - I go to the one in Green Hills by Pier 1. It's super light and sucks up dog hair like a champ. It does have bags, but they close off as you empty them so nothing escapes. I used to have a bagless but didn't like all the stuff that would fly around when I'd empty it. They're not cheap (my mom actually bought ours as a Christmas present years ago), but I think mine has a lifetime warranty. Anytime something breaks you take it in and they fix it for free. That's my two cents. Good luck!
kayce, first thank you so much for your kind words regading the loss of my mother in law last week. we are healing.
secondly, we are hard on our vacuum cleaners too. after going through too many i made the investment in a Meile Capricorn canister vac. pricey yes, but i'm certain i will have it the rest of my life. it is that good. happy shopping!
I have a Dyson....just the plain old yellow one. I've had it for 5 years and it has never ever needed one repair and still works like new. My kids use it so you better believe absolutely everything in the world has been vacuumed up inside it. It's been dropped down the stairs several times also.
I'm sure there could be better vacuums out there, but I was only willing to part with so much money.
Hi Kayce,
I have the Dyson and when it dies I will not buy another one. It's not all it's cracked up to be. Don't know which one I will get--hopefully you'll be able to suggest one then :)
Julie
I have an Oreck.. works great for my golden retriever's hair. I mostly have hardwood everywhere but it's nice because it goes easily between hardwood and area rugs.
I have a Dyson and it is fabulous!
DYSON animal ...it sounds like a jet engine, but who cares..it freeks out my dog so i can suck all teh hairballs up!
